Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar has said that the 4-1 Serie A defeat to Atalanta was a slap in the face for Inter Milan. The Nerazzurri had recently jumped to the second position after bagging seven victories on the bounce but that streak came to an end over the weekend where they were thoroughly beaten on the road to Atalanta.
He said: “It was a dark day for Inter, as everything went wrong in that game. It may well be a slap in the face that will do us good. We were on a really good run of form, including in the Champions League, where we played well and can reach the Round of 16.It’s disappointing to have that unexpected defeat to Atalanta, but I’ll do my best for the team.”
With the Atalanta loss, Inter have dropped to third on the table but they are still comfortably placed in the pursuit of the Champions League positions with a four-point gap to fifth-placed AC Milan. Meanwhile, the Nerazzurri have impressed on their return to the Champions League after a six-year absence and they are currently holding a strong chance of making the knockout phase.
Luciano Spalletti’s side are presently holding a three-point advantage over third-placed Tottenham Hotspur and they require to avoid defeat against the north London club later this month to progress into the round of 16 stage of the elite competition. Inter return from the international break with a league game at home against Frosinone before tackling Spurs on the road.
