INTER MILAN’S CAPTAIN, ICARDI LOSES PENALTY

In their 2-1 loss to Cagliari, Mauro Icardi, who wears the captain band for Inter Milan, unfortunately ended up missing a crucial penalty thus leading to Inter’s outright defeat.

This has further compounded the star playmaker’s woes as he already has some issues with fans of Milan.

The beginning of the season saw Icardi start fantastically, scoring no less than six goals in seven matches for Inter. However, he ended up recently angering Inter fans with some comments in his autobiography, which the fans have refuted to be lies when they issued out a lengthy statement.

As he walked out at the commencement of the match, he was greeted with insulting banners about him and jeers from the fans at the San Siro stadium. This shows that his attempt in a statement earlier on to placate the fans had failed woefully.

Javier Zanetti, the Vice President and legend at Inter, has said he would take actions which could see Icardi being stripped of the captaincy position.

A goal by Joao Mario some 10 minutes after the stroke of halftime gave Inter the lead. Mario had found Ivan Perisic with a pass and raced into the box to receive a return pass. His initial effort got saved by Marco Storari, Cagliari’s goalie but Mario was able to make good use by tapping back the rebound.

The lead hardly lasted long as Federico Melchiorri leveled in the 71st minutes of the game. He also had a hand in the second, which saw his deflected cross turned in by Samir Handanovic, Inter’s goalie.

Following these goals, Melchiorri now has two goals in his only two Serie A matches. This comes on the heels of a few difficult years where hewent through a brain surgery and also returned from a serious knee injury. Cagliari has now moved into seventh spot above Inter.
