Antonio Conte praised his strikers after they were able to get Inter Milan to a 3-1 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League. This was a decisive game for the Italian outfit, who were trailing Borussia Dortmund in the group stages going into the last two matches. If not for this victory, Inter would be stuck in the third place and potentially heading to a Europa League spot in the knockout stages.
Now, Inter have given themselves a huge chance of reaching the Champions League last 16 even if the team needs to overcome Barcelona in the last game.
Lautaro Martinez was able to come up with two goals while Romelu Lukaku added a third for the Italian team. The former opened the scoring after just 19 minutes when he was assisted by the Belgian.
Incidentally, Lukaku once again came up with an assist for Martinez with two minutes left in the game. Yet, things could have gone differently for Inter in this difficult away game sinceSoucek’s penalty in the 37th minute had equalised things for the home team. It was always to be a difficult away fixture and Inter had less than 40% of the ball. Speaking after the game, Conte expressed his delight with the way his strikers grabbed three goals and two assists.
“The strikers were decisive and I am very happy for them. They fought it out physically with the Slavia players, which they had struggled to do last time.We are talking about two players who are not yet complete. Lukaku has a lot of potential, he still needs to be encouraged. Lautaro is only 22 years old. But after four months we see the difference. Players in general are stronger, they are growing clearly,” said Conte, whose team take on SPAL in a home game this weekend.
