Argentine striker Lautaro Martinez has said that Inter Milan should carry the positives from the recent defeat to Juventus in the Serie A. The Nerazzurri had the chance to gain a five-point advantage over the Bianconeri at the top of the table but that was not the case as they suffered a 2-1 defeat in their homeground.
Owing to that result, the Nerazzurri have dropped a point behind the reigning champions on the table but Martinez is not overly concerned by the situation. Speaking on international duty, Martinez said that the Nerazzurri need to work harder to match the level of the Bianconeri and they should consider the recent defeat as a stimulus to improve.
He told: “For now I am focused on the National team. We will analyse the errors which led to the defeat. Juventus are a very strong team and I said that immediately after the game. We will continue to work to try and reach their level. The defeat is not being taken negatively but rather it is being seen as a stimulus to improve.”
The Nerazzurri have bolstered their attack front from last season with the summer arrivals of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez (on loan) from Manchester United and the duo have contributed a combined four goals to date. Against the Bianconeri, Antonio Conte’s side put up a strong fight through the 90 minutes but they could not avoid the defeat after Gonzalo Higuain came off the bench to score for the visitors.
Despite the defeat, the Nerazzurri are just one point behind the Bianconeri at the top and they now need to build up another winning streak such that they can sustain the pressure on the league holders. The San Siro giants have an away game at Sassuolo after the international break.
