Croatian winger Ivan Perisic has said that he could not turn down a move to Bayern Munich after the offer came by. The 30-year-old was widely expected to leave Inter Milan this summer after falling down the pecking order under manager Antonio Conte but the move to the Bavarian giants certainly came out of the blue.
Meanwhile, Perisic has previously played under the guidance of Kovac for the national team between 2013 and 2015, and the manager is confident that the winger would prove a success for Bayern, he told: “I know what he can do. He’s one of the top three players in our national side and he’s a team player He’ll give us drive on the flanks and that’s what we need on our game.”
Bayern were initially looking at the prospect of landing Leroy Sane from Manchester City and Kovac has been vocal regarding the club’s interest in the Germany international. However, the move was scuppered by a long-term knee injury for the attacker and that meant that the club shifted the attention towards the experienced Perisic, who has previously shone in the ranks of Wolfsburg. Bayern start their league campaign against Hertha Berlin. Perisic won’t be making his debut, however, as he has to serve a one-game suspension for reaching the yellow card limit during the final game for Inter last season.
