Cedric Soares pleased after securing winter move to Inter Milan

Portuguese defender Cedric Soares has said that he did not think twice after the interest from Inter Milan was made evident through his representative. The right-sided defender had fallen out-of-favour after Ralph Hasenhuttl took charge of the club in December and this eventually paved the way for him to join the Nerazzurri on loan for the campaign.

In a report covered by Football Italia, Soares revealed the circumstances which led to him joining the Nerazzurri during the winter period. He added to highlight his strength of being a team player and he is prepared to play in different defensive positions for the side under Luciano Spalletti, he said: “I was in London, it was my day off. I saw I had a call from my agent and when understood there was a chance to get to Inter I immediately called Joao Mario.

“We have been great friends for a long time and he was very happy. I am a team player. I always try to talk with my teammates. I am always looking for space to cross the ball or play one-two’s. I like to push up but if Luciano Spalletti asks me to stay back or play in a three man defence then I will do it without any problem.”

Soares had been a relatively consistent performer for the Saints over the past few seasons but he could not make the cut under Hasenhuttl, who had preferred Yan Valery and James Ward-Prowse ahead of him for the right wing-back role. As such, it made sense to pursue a fresh challenge elsewhere and with Inter, the Portuguese has the opportunity to ply his trade in Europe once more.

Inter are currently into the round of 32 stage of the Europa League where they are scheduled to face Rapid Wien across two legs. Elsewhere, they are occupying the third position in the Serie A and maintaining the same would assure them of Champions League football for the second season running without the tedious task of winning the Europa League.
